Have you heard of the woman who challenged kings,
And ruled the sea with strength and rare determination?
She is Lady al-Hurra,
The princess of jihad and queen of the seas.
Aisha bint Ali bin Musa bin Rashid al-Alam,
Was born in the year 1493 in the city of Chefchaouen,
Only one year after the fall of Granada,
The last Islamic kingdom in Andalusia.
She grew up in a house that combined knowledge and jihad,
And learned horsemanship and politics,
Until she became one of the most intelligent,
And cunning women of her time.
She married the ruler of Tetouan,
And when he died,
she took over the rule herself,
So she revived the city,
And made it a strong center,
in the face of the Spanish and the Portuguese.
Years later,
She married.
But she continued to rule from her throne,
Not from her husband’s palace,
To be the only queen in the history of Morocco,
Who maintained her absolute authority,
She did not forget what the Spanish did to the Muslims in Andalusia,
So she established a naval fleet for jihad,
And launched attacks on European ships,
Until she was known by the title of Queen of the Mediterranean.
Then she formed a historical alliance with the Ottoman leader,
Khair ad-Din,
Who was from Algerian side
The free lady was a symbol of the Muslim woman leader
Who combined knowledge, politics and jihad,
So she deserved to be immortalized in history,
As one of the greatest women of Islam,
Who did not submit,
Or conquer.
