Bold In Compassion
“So the next time you talk about
wiping butts,
do it with gratitude.
Because one day, maybe… they will be yours.”
— GamilSinkiLLC
Just today, someone said to me, “You clean butts.”
It’s neither the first time nor the last… but this time, I decided to respond.
Yes, I clean butts.
But I do much more than that:
I cut nails, I wash bodies, I feed, I clothe, I comfort, I listen.
I accompany human beings who, for some, no longer have the strength to do all this themselves.
I make possible what others prefer not to see.
These gestures are acts of care, respect, and dignity.
And to reduce them to a contemptuous phrase is to insult everything that is profoundly human in this profession.
Because, let’s be clear:
I could not do a job where you have to manipulate or lie to exist.
And yet, these are often the professions we glorify, while ours is looked down upon.
The reality is that those who belittle what we do have, so far, never needed help going to the bathroom or washing themselves.
But that day may come. And when it does, there will, despite everything, be someone like me to help them with respect and kindness.
Our work is invisible, but essential.
It requires heart, strength, courage.
It deserves respect. Real respect.
So the next time you talk about “wiping butts,” do it with gratitude.
Because one day, maybe… they will be yours.
