Esau’s Feasts
Esau, in despair, sold his birthright to Jacob.
Rebekah listened.
And Isaac blessed Jacob, by mistake and by conspiracy.
So
Jacob escaped from Esau.
And
Esau hated Jacob.
Genesis 25:24-34
Genesis 27:1-46
“Jacob prepared a stew. Esau came in from the field, exhausted. Esau said to Jacob,
‘Give me some of this red stew to eat, for I am exhausted.’ Therefore, his name was
called Edom. Jacob said, ‘Sell me your birthright today.’ Esau replied, ‘Look, I am about
to die; what profit will this birthright bring me?’ Jacob said, ‘Swear to me today.’ “He
swore to him and sold his birthright to Jacob. Jacob gave Esau bread and lentil stew;
then he ate and drank, got up, and left. So Esau despised his birthright… when Esau lost
hope… he said to his father, “Bless me, O my father!” Esau raised his voice and wept.
Isaac, his father, answered him:
“Behold, your dwelling shall be
the fatness of the earth,
and the dew of heaven above.
You shall live by your sword,
and serve your brother;
and it shall come to pass,
when you are troubled,
that you shall break his yoke
from your neck.” » Genesis 27:40
